i found this on another site, i just tried it and it worked!!!!    
http://cert.uni-stuttgart.de/archive/forensics/2002/11/msg00066.html   It uses a 
standard MS application to recover corrupt PST files.    Although in my case my PST 
was fine (apart from my missing messages :( ), the technique is to make a deliberate 
change to your PST file and then use the MS tool to recover it, and in the process, 
restore your permanently deleted files....   I can't describe the pleasure of seeing 
976 emails in my inbox again :D   Remember, make a backup of your PST file before you 
try it and don't forget to always make regular backups (*mental note* must create 
backup now)
