Nave,   Yes, I believe you can save the file as a template, just try changing the 
filename to .xlt and say xlApp.ActiveWorkbook.Save;   Talking about extending the 
funcationality what exactly do you want here? You can do almost everything with the 
APIs, that a user would do working on Microsoft Excel. If you have any specific 
funcationality in mind which your excel template should have then please post it.    
Also note that you are calling unmanaged code here, you might notice an EXCEL process 
still running in your Windows Task Manager, even after your program has finished 
execution. Use Marshal.ReleaseComObject to explicity control the lifetime of your COM 
object.
