----------------------------------------------------------- From: msjawahar Message 1 in Discussion Computer Vision Syndrome ___________________________ Those who use computer for more than two hours a day are likely to suffer from COMPUTER VISION SYNDROME. The symptoms are -> Glare -> Blurred Vision -> After-images -> Tired eyes -> Eye strain -> Dry,irritate eyes -> Difficulty in focussing -> Increased photosensitivity -> Temporary myopia Here are 10 Commandments to ease the problems 1.) EYE TO SCREEN DISTANCE Keep atleast 25 inches, prefarably more. 2.) MONITOR TILT Keep the monitor slightly farther from the eyes than the bottom of the monitor. 3.) SCREEN COLOURS Use dark letters on a light background. 4.) VERTICAL LOCATION Ensure that viewing area of the monitor is between 15 degree and 500 degree below eye level. 5.) LIGHTNING Home Ceiling suspended indirect ligting. Use blind shaded and curtains to control outside light and avoid reflection. 6.) NECK POSTURE Always use chair with arms.Note that flexion(head-tilt pose) causes less fatigue than head erect position. 7.) HUMIDITY and AIRFLOW Avoid direct flow of draft of air on your eyes. Avoid low humidity or fumes as it aggravates dry eye condition. 8.) BREAK Take a short visual break every 20 minutes to avoid strain. 9.) EXCERSISE Blink your eyes fe times. Close eye lids and roll the eyes behind your closed eye lids once clockwise and once anti-clockwise. Take a deep breath and open eyes while releasing breath. 10.) ANTI_GLARE and SPECTACLES Use anti-glare screens if possile and prevent direct glare. Some computer users may require a pair of glasses just for computer work. Doctor suggestion To use lubricating drops such as POLYVIN, TEAR PLUS or CUWET eyedrops every 20 minutes.
