Laxman, Another way can be to have a hashtable at application level, which stores all 
the logged in usernames [if user id is stored, one needs to check with database for 
user name; can avoid this costly step of contacting database]. Just check through this 
string for the username and reject the user if he/she is already logged in. Caching
