Hi 
Ganesh,
    Metadata is the binary data of 
you app stored in PE file or Memory. This piece of info makes upto one part 
of the assembly and the rest is the code converted to MSIL. Metadata is required 
for self description, security, versioning, cross language usage of 
assembly, with lot of customization allowed using custom attributes. It can 
be stored as .dll or .exe based on requirement. 
    And to put it in simple way, 
this metadata is stored in a datastructure called manifest. Simple isn't
