Several good attempts here, but I am not sure the question was comunicated correctly.
Here is the question: The ATTRIB command can be used to set and reset file
attributes. In which version of DOS did this command gain the ability of setting and
resetting the Hidden attribute? and the bonus rider: Before the version mentioned in
the last question, what could the ATTRIB command do which the DIR command could not?
Both answers are there in the research done by venkat_kl, ThangavelRaja and
Arian_Intellect. They are: The +/-H switch to the ATTRIB command was introduced in
DOS 5.0. This was a really great DOS version, my favourite. Apart from ATTRIB
enhancements, it introduced /? switches to commands, several enhancements to the DIR
command, some neat enhancements in batch files, and a (heh, heh) GUI shell with a task
switcher. And, it was smaller and faster than the previous version. The answer to
the rider is this: The ATTRIB command, with its /S switch, could be used to get a list
of files in the current directory and the ones below it recursively. The DIR command
could not do this before DOS version 5.0. So, no one gets the prize for this
question .Fault is mine, for not communicating it properly. I will ask another one in
here shortly, for next time's meeting. Regards Raj
