----------------------------------------------------------- From: Mil10 Message 2 in Discussion We can not make physical damage to a fixed drive or removable drive programmatically. But logically we can mark one more sectors as bad sectors through program. When ever we read or write data to a fixed or removed magnetic disk media, OS uses FAT to decide where to write or read from. Each and every sector in the disk has an entry in FAT. So suppose we want to mark the 10th sector as bad, change the FAT entry for 10th sector to FFFFFF7h in a FAT32 file system. For more info about accessing FAT and other disk areas go to http://home.freeuk.com/foxy2k/disk/disk9.htm. To read/write disk sectors u have to use absolutediskread, absolutediskwrite disk accessing interrupts using c++. For accessing FAT there is predefined algorithm separately for 12, 16 and 32 bit. Lot of sample codes is available on net. ----------------------------------------------------------- To stop getting this e-mail, or change how often it arrives, go to your E-mail Settings. http://groups.msn.com/bdotnet/_emailsettings.msnw Need help?
