IN will not work in this case, because '1,2,3' will be interpreted as a literal
character string and your comparision will give an error. There are two ways you can
solve this: (1) Use dynamic SQL so that you construct your query inside a string and
then use the EXEC command. (2) Use a function like CHARINDEX to search through the
input parameter. Here are examples for both approaches: (1) DECLARE @sqlString
VARCHAR(8000)
DECLARE @pattern VARCHAR(50)
SET @pattern = '0, 1'
SET @sqlString = 'SELECT * FROM authors WHERE contract IN (' + @pattern + ')'
EXEC (@sqlString)
 (2) DECLARE @sqlString VARCHAR(8000)
DECLARE @pattern VARCHAR(50)
SET @pattern = ',0,1,'
SELECT * FROM authors WHERE CHARINDEX (',' + CAST(contract AS VARCHAR(1)) + ',',
@pattern) > 0 HTH, Srinivas Sampath MVP - SQL Server
