Webservices is one subject that doesnt really have any advantages or disadvantages, but is more pertainable to scenarios that need them. The advantages in that case is aplenty: 1. Common, world standards based interface to any application, leads to platform interopability and integration of apps. 2. Easy to understand and use, with support from leading vendors (.Net being a platform that allows rapid building of WS with their ASMX architecture). 3. Available on multiple transport layers, The disadvantages are there too: 1. Talk of XML and complex SOAP ; it is a huge trip on performance. 2. If WS were to run on HTTP, it has the traditional availability problems of any web application, 3. Security is an issue that is yet to be dealt with perfection and many more that I would like to remember.
