The closest that I came to was releaseObject method() but it never worked for me. There is one more thing that can be done I was told . I am still experimenting with it.... Start a new AppDomain Create the excel Object in that Process Excel file Release Excel Destroy AppDomain I believe this should release the excel instance. You can try it. We didn't go with the approach due to tranactional difficulties which may arise because of appdomains.
