Try this small sample code This was working fine for me 
 
      byte b = 250; 
      IntPtr pt = new IntPtr((int)b); 


     Console.WriteLine("Value of pt is : " + pt.ToString()); 

     Console.WriteLine("Value of b is : " + b.ToString()); 

Byte is an 8-bit unsigned integer and IntPtr is a pointer to an integer or a handle. 
There are 3 overloaded constructors for IntPtr. One takes long, One takes int and the 
other takes any type but which is not CLS Compliant...I mean u got to unsafe code. In 
the above code we instantiate IntPtr using a constructor which takes an integer..so we 
have typecasted byte to integer. There's no fear of losing data in this type 
conversion. I hope that helps
