----------------------------------------------------------- New Message on BDOTNET
----------------------------------------------------------- From: SeeSharp Message 2 in Discussion Hi Senthil, Null is a special type in the database that represents the concept of an "unknown value". It is different from a zero length string. A zero length string is actually a know qty of "/0" or sting terminator. Hence the result. In fact, I think the use of <> operator on null is a lil misconstrued. Lemme explain with an example. try declare @var varchar(20) select @var = '' if @var <> null print 'not same as null' else print 'same as null' as against declare @var varchar(20) select @var = '' if not( @var is null) print 'not same as null' else print 'same as null' the results are not the same :) -Diwakar ----------------------------------------------------------- To stop getting this e-mail, or change how often it arrives, go to your E-mail Settings. http://groups.msn.com/BDOTNET/_emailsettings.msnw Need help?
