Actually The SMSC Gateway is the the bridge between the Wired and the Wireless world ( I am sure you are aware of it :)) So when we send '8888' SMS to these numbers it would be analogous to a mobile number but corresponds to a reserved set of numbers on the SMS gateway. These are something like ports. The SMS gateway receives these messages and routes it internally to a program that maybe registered via callback or polling mechanism. The program also gets the information from your SMS (caller ID ) your phone number .... It then parses the request string e.g. (PNR <PNR Number>) so it gets that the person wants to know the PNR status of the PNR. If no request string is send then it may be the default action is to be performed. The program then performs the requested action and creates another SMS and sends it back to you from the caller id it picked up from your SMS It is interesting to note that even your bill is calculated via a SMS between the server ,only this address is kept highly confidential.
