Firstly .. is opening the new page necessary ..
?
try to throw the file to the user in the click on
the page itself.. this increases performace cause another page object does not
have be rendered by the http runtime..
Ok .. incase you want to close the page.. you can
use a client side function to close the page.
window.close();
call this function on the onLoad
clientevet for the page..

ps: by the way .. this is a common requirement ..
