Hi,  I think, you cannot hide a public property of base class.But Text property of 
TextBox is overridable i.e. override Text property in your control and set your 
default value.   public class MyControl : TextBox
 {      .
     .
     .     public override string Text
   {
      get { return base.Text; }
     set
     { 
          base.Text = String.Empty;  //or any default value or based on some logic;
      }
    }
 }   -Raja
