Hi ,   The concept is simple but there is an abstraction too.  We generally have to 
write a web page .. let's say  customerService.asp that expects parameters ..  This 
page takes the keyword and other information that is needed. Remember that they have 
huge number of such services.    Now this page decides where to get the data from. 
Typically this page redirects to other pages based on the type of the service ( 
decided on the  keyword sent ) .   That's about the application.  All you will know is 
that your page will be called with parameters and you will have to respond to it.   
HTTP is the simplest way because their applications would be typically in perl ( 
atleast the one in which i worked ) . So in the event of an SMS their programs would 
call the webpage to service the request.    Till the end we have never sent/received
