Let's say one org is sending mail. But it needs conformatoin weather user read it or not. So what we do is we include one dummy image tag like this in the email body <img src="xyz.asp?userid=kiran"> Which will call xyz.asp as soon the mail opend and in xyz asp page we update the database and infom the sender that user read the mail. So u can do the same things like this for any application. May nt be only image tag. this was just example.
