The idea of keeping a flag in the database is an ideal solution. But extra care has to 
be taken care while flagging the flag to false.   The flag should be set tp false not 
only when the user logs out but , also when the user closes the IE window instead of 
clicking logoff. Other such conditions also needs to be taken care of.   or the result 
would be that user would not be able to login again since the flag is  still set as
