----------------------------------------------------------- New Message on BDOTNET
----------------------------------------------------------- From: _SQL_Vinod_ Message 4 in Discussion What is confusing on SQL Server BOL. It would be nice if you can tell us the same. Fundamentally both Indexes are stored as a B-Tree structure (clustered and non-clustered). All the indexes AFAIK in SQL Server are of these two categories ONLY. There are indexes created internally by SQL Server for effictive constraints management like the Unique key index. To some extend Shri has outlined the difference. Basically if you are familiar with the BTree structure then Clustered Index contains the data at the leaf page. And wrt non-clustered index. The key defining the non-clustered index is used to arrange the pages. But a pointer to the actual data is stored with the leaf page to further data retrival. Not sure if it clarifies your doubts. Do feel free to ping your doubt.
