hi kannan
the stored procedure u told is part of master data base, so in order to use ur method
i need to create this procedure in my database ,
i found a much simpler way ,
there is syscolums table which has information abt colums so i use this query
SELECT length FROM SYSCOLUMNS WHERE ID = OBJECT_ID('tablename')AND Name = 'columnname'
