Remote Debugging
of SP in Sql 200

Visual Studio provides
three ways to do remote debugging:

        The preferred method
uses DCOM and the Machine Debug Manager.
        The other two methods
are available for native C or C++ applications only. These methods use
the Remote Debug Monitor (Msvcmon) and either Pipes or TCP/IP.

T-SQL

You must have permission
to execute sp_sdidebug() on the database.

You must have mssdi98.dll
installed in the Binn directory of your SQL Server installation.

On operating systems
before Windows XP, SQL Server must not be running as Local System.

ASPRemote Debugging

With the Visual Studio
.NET debugger, you can debug an ASP Web application on the local machine
or a remote server. For remote debugging to work properly, there are some
prerequisite steps to perform:

        First, the Visual Studio
.NET Remote Debugging Components must be installed on the server you want
to debug. (See Setting Up Remote Debugging.)
        The remote server must
grant access to the debug user. To grant access to a user, you must add
the user to the Debugger User group on the server. This permission is required
even if the debugger user is an administrator on the remote server. For
details, see Adding Debugger Users and Configuring DCOM.
        Using regedit.exe, you
must set these two registry keys on the remote machine:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\AppID\{6EB22881-8A19-11D0-81B6-00A0C9231C29}]

@="Catalog Class"

"DllSurrogate"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{6EB22881-8A19-11D0-81B6-00A0C9231C29}]

@="Catalog Class"

"AppID"="{6EB22881-8A19-11D0-81B6-00A0C9231C29}"

        Finally, you must configure
DCOM permissions on the Web server.
