Hi,   I can see 2 reasons that can cause the problem.   1)The query you are 
excuting must be either a view which is pointing to linked server or there must 
some trigger which is processing some thing on other server.   2)If there is no 
linked server,check if there is an entry of  database server name in 
"master.dbo.sysservers".if not use "sp_addserver" to add it(dont forget to 
restart ur server after adding).   HTH,   Sri
