----------------------------------------------------------- New Message on BDOTNET
----------------------------------------------------------- From: Mrinal Message 5 in Discussion Hi , Release / Build It's right that they are mode of assembly creation or project compilation using visual studio and has been existing for long now in various past versions , but few things to consider are : 1. Debug symbols generated are specific to .Net framework , they are not something independent of framework we are using , as mentioned earlier it has to do reverse mapping , which goes through MSIL generated . You don't have same debug symbols generated for debugging vb code targeting vb runtime and c# code targeting .net CLR . 2. Files in either mode can be created by using command line compilers with appropriate switches , visual studio is not even required . 3. http://blogs.pingpoet.com/thoughtchain/archive/2004/02/15/326.aspx Interesting link - that says it's better to create release mode with debug symbols , as : a. 99% of optimization is done by JIT not csc or any other language compiler . b. helps in debugging release code when required , needn't regenerate debug assembly again . 4. Also for somebody to go through code for release mode with debug symbols , associated cs or vb code classes should be available and if they can generated by reverse engineering then it doesn't matter whether debug symbols are there or not beacuse as such only executables and libraries are deployed for production version execution . Hope it helps , Mrinal ----------------------------------------------------------- To stop getting this e-mail, or change how often it arrives, go to your E-mail Settings. http://groups.msn.com/bdotnet/_emailsettings.msnw Need help?
