Try pinging the public ip of Australian server . 2. In case Response time is good enough , then make sure that you make give good enough time for connection timeout , as in your case it will be : Total Time = Time to Send Request to server + Initiate a Connection to SQL Server + Geta Response back and valid Connection object + Server Response to Client + Serialization Overheads . which will not be as fast as earlier case of local db . Also , did you have a look at the exception details and i am not sure it you can accesss code library , it will give a better picture . Make sure that SQl Server is started on that remote server , if somebody can ensure that for you .
