Try something like this sequence
ChildControl objYourKid = new ChildControl()
ParentContrl objParent = objYourKid.Parent
objYourKid.Close();
objParent.DoEvent() -- Watch here
DoEvent() is the key . I am not sure about the sequence. Check the syntax.
