Hey Everyone, Things have come a long way since the seeds of mountain.rb were planted in the spring. It's been a ton of work but I've enjoyed it thoroughly (the loss of billable hours, not so much). I just pushed another update to the site including more wonderful sponsors and some much needed design love on the site.
The most exciting update is that we'll be doing a charity workshop on Ruby and Ruby on Rails on Wednesday the 6th at Chautauqua. It'll start at 9am and go until 4pm. Lunch will be provided. We're still ironing out all the details but essentially it'll be geared towards those wanting to learn Ruby or Ruby on Rails. Those will light experience will also benefit from attending as well. Space will be limited. I will post more on it once we've finalized the workshop. It'll be a great way to kick off the conference as well as support local charities. Early bird pricing ends on Monday the 6th at 11:59pm. Please go and register if you haven't already. http://mountainrb.com/register Though I may be a bit biased, I think this conference is going to be awesome. We've got top notch Rubyists flying in from around the world to spend half a week in Colorado. The mix of sessions both on the art and craft of software and technical Ruby is compelling. I'm getting creative with the session format so expect to see some new ideas from your typical conference. The biggest focus of the conference format is on community. I'm structuring ample time between sessions so you can mingle with fellow attendees and speakers. We're also working on a full day schedule of events both in the Boulder Theater and around downtown Boulder that will give you more social time as well as hackfests. Oh, and we're planning some really fun parties after hours too. I wanted this conference to stimulate the mind, get people talking and have a great time with their fellow Rubyists. A few people have asked me why I decided to go forward with the conference. The main answer is I wanted to bring a top notch Ruby conference to Colorado so our vibrant Ruby community here could attend without getting on a plane. Registrations have been a bit sluggish and I'm not sure if that's because there's little interest or if folks are just procrastinating. I won't lie and tell you the workload has gone well beyond what I expected. Whether I decide to do this again next year will hinge on the sort of interest there is from the local community. So please don't miss this golden opportunity to come hang out with your fellow Rubyists to learn and have a great time. If you know you're not coming, I'd love to hear your feedback on why not (offlist please). I know I can't make an event for everyone but it's always healthy to hear any criticisms.
