For when other people have this problem with bzr a reasonable place to start is "bzr -Dhttp <clone|pull>"[1] if you can't just use different transport type or another tool to copy the data. The debug option will fill your ~/.bzr.log with debugging information that may help. It did in my case, and I can now clone the repositories if the magic 8-ball agrees. Thanks, James 1.
