I followed with success the software updating procedure described in this page:
http://circuitco.com/support/index.php?title=Updating_The_Software

I used this eMMC flasher image to update the eMMC:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/angstrom/demo/beaglebone/BBB-eMMC-flasher-2013.09.04.img.xz

now I have a functioning amstrong system on my BBB.

Next, I issued the command:
# opkg update

and all is fine, by now.

The next step sould be the command:

#opkg upgrade

but, reading around:
- it's a 2.5 hours step;
- it's not guarranteed that all things goes well;
- somebody says: "don't doit!" (without explaining why);

So, is it really a good thing to make an upgrade or could I live happy and go on without it?

regards
