I am going through the same process you are describing. There are many advantages to community development... but one of them is not having third party documentation ready on for release dates.
As a new BeagleBone user, I have found it easiest to work though existing blogs and howtos using the Angstrom distro. The body of literature is much greater. When figuring things out on the new Debian disto I have found it helpful to set Google to only search for article within the last two weeks.
