So why not stay with 4.8 ? Also John is right in two of his posts. First, this isnt really a question to ask here, but instead should be asked on the QT forums. Secondly, this does not seem to be a hardware issue. Since an older version does work. So we have to assume this is an API / SDK difference issue. So, if you ask on their forums what has changed between the two versions that might cause your problem. *Maybe* you will get an answer. If that does not work perhaps someone on stackoverflow will answer you. There are a lot of smart people on stackoverflow, and at least a few that know beagle hardware well too.
