The problem is the mono runtime. It is not supported in Ubuntu 14.04. You might try Arch Arm Linux, it supports the mono runtime. I couldn't get the desktop to work on my beaglebone black rev b. I tried to get Debian Jessie to work. It supports the mono runtime. However, I couldn't get the desktop to work.
