Ok. I seemed to have figured out how to get it working.

I entered ifdown wlan0 then ifup wlan0

It is now connected to wifi.

I restarted it and it booted back up with the wifi working. Although very 
slow connection going through ssh. Not sure if that will persist, but at 
least it's working.
