3.8.13-bone47 is where I am at my own personal "happy place" so far, which seems to also be where element14 seems to be with their kernel versions too.
My own reasoning is fairly simple. It is fairly up to date, and systemd is optional at this point with a simple *apt-get install systemd* if and when you feel like experimenting. This upgrade also seems fairly clean. Just my own 2-cents. . .
