I have not been able to solve it. I've reported it to the ALSA developer 
list as well, but haven't received an answer (yet):

Also, Rick Mann seems to be having similar problems getting an audio board 
working on 4.1 and later. You can read about it here:

I've been meaning to try newer kernels to see if it is fixed, but haven't 
found the time yet. Will report here if I get around to it.
