LXDE in Lubuntu is a lot different from LXDE on Debian. For starters, Lubuntu can by default install and easily run Cairo, which in my opinion makes Lubuntu look awesome on the desktop. Debian on the other hand, can not run cairo very easily, if at all.
SO do not get me wrong, I'm not exactly an Ubuntu buff, in fact I tend to view Ubuntu worse than MS Windows in many regards. But I do think that as far as desktops goes, Ubuntu( Lubuntu in this case ) is light years ahead of Debian. Oh and right, Lubuntu has hardware acceleration for LXDE + Cairo on the desktop, I was never able to get that to work with Debian. BUt this makes Lubuntu really fast on lower performing hardware. I will say though, Lubuntu on the beaglebone will be really slow.
