This is a sign that your still booting the original dtb:
dtb=am335x-boneblack.dtb

Do you have a usb serial debug cable?

We need to look and see what u-boot is doing and if it's correctly loading
the custom:

dtb=am335x-boneblack-emmc-overlay.dtb from /boot/uEnv.txt
