Hi, If you want to use mail line kernel, latest stable kernel is 4.9.y.
you can generate both zImage and uImage. By default, if you do make then it will generate zImage. usually I don't build rootfs, I will take rootfs from https://eewiki.net/display/linuxonarm/BeagleBone+Black this path.
