Yeah, RTL8188CUS those are painful..

Couple options, do you have a usb extension cable?

Are you using hdmi? (we can disable that then you don't need the
extension cable)

also give the v4.9.x-ti branch a try..

cd /opt/scripts/tools/
git pull
sudo ./update_kernel.sh --ti-channel --lts-4_9
