Further info, i have attempted to force the module load order using
MODULE_SOFTDEP in the pru_dma module code:
MODULE_SOFTDEP("post: pru_rproc")
MODULE_SOFTDEP("post: pruss_soc_bus")
MODULE_SOFTDEP("post: pruss")
https://github.com/dine909/beaglebone-pru-dma/blob/master/kernel-patch/rcn-ee-tree-patch/0001-Add-pru-dma-patches.patch#L133
but this has had no effect.
