Please offer this as a hardware option. This is related to the potential thermal requirements of the AI. I am currently running two AI's with recycled laptop heat pipe assemblies to bring the heat out of the gap between BeagleBone and KiwiSDR capes. Without active cooling and running at 1GHz the board settles at just under 60C, with simple fan blowing (vaguely) over the heatpipe fins about 45C This is enough to avoid thermal shutdown on fan failure but would not suit more stressful use.
In some applications it would be better to have full access to the top of the BBAI for improved cooling while using an extension board beneath it. I realise this would complicate production testing and the supply chain but would open up potential uses where the header does not need to be fully populated, be reversed or replaced with a short cable assembly.
