There is a default name specified in the device-tree.. https://github.com/beagleboard/bb.org-overlays/blob/master/src/arm/AM335X-PRU-RPROC-4-19-TI-00A0.dts#L109 am335x-pru0-fw and am335x-pru1-fw As long as it's called that, a copy saved in teh initramfs, it'll get auto-loaded on bootup.. We don't ship any default firmware.
