I'm just not doing it yet, it hasn't been necessary due to the presence of a very large number of unit tests. The main branch is stable. For packaging, you can use the revision number. For debugging, report on the head. We don't have patches. There hasn't been many issues that require bisecting (I have so many unit tests problems are usually very easy to find).
I'll do versions at some point soon for people who want ease in deployment - one other user asked for this - and frankly, mainly because people are used to them. I had planned to start doing revisions once that average cost booking is there, which is the point at which I think Beancount is "complete" to the ideals I set when I began to rewrite it.
