Good to know! Fava displays an error if the operating currency is not set, and my guess is, a translation for that that error message does not exist, which causes it to crash. If your error message is reproducible by removing those option lines, you might consider filing a bug here <https://github.com/beancount/fava/issues> to help out the Fava folks.
