That trick uses only one tiny feature of gdb – inspecting symbols that normally aren't available in most parts of the program. I realized that it would be possible to add that feature to CUT, so I went ahead and pushed that to the master branch.
I also changed CUT so it forks before each test, isolating them very nicely from one another.
