I'd say this is all moot until you implement and benchmark it, I mean
if this is a single digit (percentage wise) performance hit than go
for it, but if it's like 50% slower it might not be a good idea =). I
haven't actually bothered to benchmark beanstalkd in my application
because I find it is pretty much instantaneous for all intents and
purpose (which is one reason I like it). Personally I'd rather see a
light weight authentication layer (username/password) and/or TLS
support added so it can be exposed to non-trusted networks (for use in
Amazon EC2, etc.).
