I wish it were that simple...but I am positive there is only the one
consumer running.

I really like beanstalkd and I can see a lot of additional uses for it
so I really want to solve this mystery. What other info could I
provide that would be useful? I'm using v1.06 of Beanstalk::Client, I
neglected to provide the version in the initial post. I can try
enabling the debug option in Beanstalk::Client and see what that
shows, but it doesn't appear that the client is dropping the jobs,
since the first thing the client does after reserving a job is log the
job id. I feel like that should accurately reflect the jobs that the
client has actually reserved and handled.
I ran some statistics on the job rate and it is below 100/min. The
server hardware is a dual-proc 6-core HP DL386 G6 so its got plenty of
horsepower.
