Appetizers include stuffed mushrooms, glazed chicken drummettes, and sherried black bean soup. Low Fat - http://www.blujay.com/?page=ad&cat=3100000&adid=1409233 Haute Cuisine for you Heart's Delight: A Low Cholesterol Cookbook for Gourmets, by Carol Cutler, Crown Publishers, 1973, hardcover w dust jacket, 258pp incl index. Written by a French cuisine expert and introduced by venerated nutritionist Jean Mayer, this book is a treasure trove of recipes in which both health and flavor take priority. Dishes retain their European flavor while eschewing the heavy cream, butter, and egg sauces of traditional French cookery, with entrees like Veal Grenadins with Vermouth, Chef Narce's Pork Roast (flavored with cognac), and a veal and ham pate in which she claims to achieve the rich flavor of the traditional high fat French pate and still remain within the limits of the cholesterol conscious gourmet. http://www.blujay.com/?page=ad&adid=1370111&cat=3020600 High Fit, Low Fat by Lizzie Burt and Nelda Mercer, M.S., R.D., comb-bound softcover, 1989:The University of Michigan Press, 160 pages including index. Delicious recipes developed originally for cardiac patients but appealing to all, as the wife of Dominos Pizza founder Tom Monaghan attests in the Forward. Recipes call for everyday ingredients. A handy shopping list, review of salad greens, herbs, and spices, high fit-low fat substitutions, and a cooking glossary conclude this helpful book. A well-researched and practical cookbook for those wishing to feel great while eating well. Food for Gifts - http://www.blujay.com/?page=ad&adid=1471112&cat=3100000 Gifts of Good Taste, Anna Young, ed., Leisure Arts, 1989, hardcover, 126pp. A treasure trove of 80 gifts to make for all occasions and holidays. No need for gift wrap -- these baskets of goodies are special enough to be presented on their own! There are recipes for candies, fudge, cakes, breads, spreads, toppings, condiments, cookies, creamers, pies, jellies, sauces, mixes, dips, mulled wine, fruit juice, doggie treats, and more. But the really great thing is their presentation, and full-color photographs will inspire you with their beauty and their economy. A reference book you'll return to again and again, as you please the special people in your life, and save money, too! Food in History - http://www.blujay.com/?page=ad&adid=1421700&cat=3020600 Christmas in Michigan: Tales & Recipes, Carole Eberly, ed., East Lansing, Michigan, 1987, softcover, 136pp. A very hard-to-find, out-of-print compilation of recipes and stories unique to the Winter Water Wonderland state, edited by a Michigan State University faculty member and experienced cookbook writer (this is her 11th cookbook). Filled with tidbits of information that will surprise even native Michiganders - did you know that more Christmas trees are grown in Michigan than in any other state? An interview with Wally Bronner (Bronner's of Frankenmuth), a history of Mackinac Island, a nostalgic piece about Detroit's grand old hotels in the 1880s, and not-so-grand but also nostalgic personal stories of growing up during the Depression accompany the many recipes printed verbatim from their original sources. http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/ts/exchange-glance/Y06Y0739554Y9977441/002-4072874-9498409 Horizon Cookbook/History of Eating & Drinking Through the Ages Seller's comments: 1968 hc w dj. This is the ultimate reference work for the kitchen. You'll find out not only how to boil an egg (for instance), but why the yolk often has a greenish tinge, and the shell is sometimes hard to peel. History, chemistry, biology, zoology, and botany are applied to the science of food preparation in a manner that is clear but not condescending.
