I’ve recently published a book, THREE HUNDRED ZEROES, about my
entire hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2007/2008. This is an in-depth
look at not only what it takes to hike the trail, but surviving major
heart surgery as part of the hike. The book was recently selected as a
finalist in the 2010 Next Generation Indie Book Awards Contest.

This 328-page book, with 39 photographs, tells a humorous adventure
story that captures what it is like to hike that trail for six months
with a hammock and a ham radio. Since the recovery period for my
six-artery heart bypass was 300 days, I took three hundred “zero
days” to get back on the trail.

It isn’t so much a how-to book, but readers have told me that
they felt it offered lots of information that they hadn’t seen
anywhere else. I’d argue that’s only because I show how
people how not to do things, so they learn by my mistakes.

If you do read the book, I would love to hear your comments. I’m
currently on a book tour along the east coast of the US. If your book
club or organization would like to arrange for a visit and PowerPoint
presentation about my hike of the trail, please contact me and
we’ll see if we can work it into the schedule.
