I agree -- can we try it with plain text? Clicking a link in a text message doesn't seem too burdensome.

I would strongly recommend *against* allowing HTML messages on the list. This is a major source of viruses and phishing attacks. While the ASF does have virus protection in place, no such protection is foolproof. It only takes one, reaching someone who uses the preview pane in Outlook (which will automatically evaluate HTML) to cause havoc, and potentially have the ASF blamed for a large corporation's down time for letting it through.

It is also going to make your list moderator(s) job a whole lot more difficult, because it will be much harder to identify legitimate messages to the list when those might include HTML.

Besides, most decent mail clients these days will auto-parse a plain text message, recognise URLs, and enable them as links automatically. This makes the value of HTML messages, for the purpose you want, significantly less valuable.

Hello Everyone,

As people might be aware we have a machine that has cruise control
running on it that builds and runs checkin tests whenever a new change
is submitted in subversion. The machine then sends out email to
[email protected] with information about the SVN
changelist at which the tests were run and if any tests failed. This
machine has been running for a couple of weeks now but we haven't seen
any email yet as there were some issues with apache mail server blocking
emails send from certain email addresses. After getting that sorted out
the mails are now being blocked as HTML emails aren't allowed unless
such a request is made and approved by the PMC of the project which
brings me to the reason for this email. The reason we have HTML emails
is that the HTML links inside the emails take you directly to the log
files which makes life really convenient for those of us who constantly
monitor the build for failures.

I would like to put forward a proposal to request the apache
infrastructure guys to give us the ability to send HTML emails to this
mailing list. Please respond with your vote.

Thanks,
