Haha, I did search the current documentation for update but it didn't cross my mind to search for upgrade :-)
so searching for "update os x beets" I found this older manual: http://beets.readthedocs.io/en/v1.3.19/guides/main.html stating: > The best way to upgrade beets to a new version is by running pip install > -U beets.
